Man in his late sixties wants to go out

We are looking for a buddy for a man in his late sixties. The buddy may speak English. The man's network currently consists of people who are not very energetic. This makes it difficult to do something together. The man would therefore like to be paired with an energetic buddy who enjoys going out with him. The man would like to do different activities with his buddy. For example, he likes to go to the cinema or museum. He is up for all kinds of trips. He would also like to visit Amsterdam. In bad weather, he would like to cook together or play a board game like Risk or Stratego. The man does not smoke. He can meet on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays. Are you interested in becoming his buddy? Read below how that works. As a volunteer at the Roads Buddy Project, we will pair you with a permanent participant: your buddy. We pair the participant and the volunteer based on, among other things, common interests. The function of this buddy contact is to break or prevent social isolation in a participant with a psychological vulnerability by going out together. As a volunteer, you provide distraction and a bit of fun. It is important that you are prepared to meet with your buddy once every two weeks for one year (longer is possible). Furthermore, you are prepared to enter into the meeting 'openly', without wanting to change the other person. That sometimes requires adaptability. Working hours: During the day or in the evening, during the week or in the weekend: all possible. If you become each other's buddy, you will meet once every two weeks for the duration of one year. When and where you meet is always determined in mutual consultation with your buddy. Acceptance procedure: Contact person Roads Buddy Project: Jorise (Mon, Wed, Thu). Feel free to contact us for an introductory meeting. If you register definitively as a volunteer, a meeting with a participant will follow. After this conversation, you can indicate the next day whether you want to become a buddy couple. Yes = start contact. No = new conversation with another buddy.

About Chantal

Hello, My name is Chantal van Mierlo. I work at the Maatjes project. This project is part of Roads and Arkin. We are looking for volunteers who want to help break social isolation for a participant with a psychological vulnerability. Would you like to spend some free time with someone who needs a pleasant distraction through one-on-one contact? As a volunteer you will be paired with a participant for a year. Together you form a buddy couple. You meet on a biweekly basis and determine in mutual consultation what you are going to do. You can think of: drinking coffee together, doing some shopping, playing a board game, walking or cycling, shopping or going to the beach. The connection takes place on the basis of wishes and common interests. Are you interested in becoming a volunteer with us? Please leave a message with your name and telephone number. I would like to get to know you by telephone. Sincerely, Chantal.

He finds it difficult to comprehend that he once had a good education and a good job in healthcare and that he is now a patient himself. He feels isolated. He has daily contact with family who do not live in the Netherlands via video calling. Furthermore, he has no social contacts. He has disappointing experiences in contacts with people and he has difficulty trusting people. The man wants a buddy with whom he can talk without his buddy interrogating him. especially in the beginning, he wants to get to know his buddy in a quiet way. We are looking for a female companion for a sweet and friendly woman over sixty from Amstelveen. The woman needs equally sweet and friendly people around her. Because of her goodness, she does not have the antennae to sense when people do or do not mean well for her. And that's why we like to pair her with a buddy. Someone who is reliable anyway. The woman can have different mood periods. At times she is a bit more gloomy. Then she is more expectant and passive and finds it difficult to get out the door. In that case, it is nice if you, as a buddy, can be a stick behind the door and encourage her to do something together. On the other hand, she also has periods when she is busy. And that she really likes to talk a lot. And then it is useful that as a volunteer you do not let yourself be completely drawn into that. So you must have the quality to balance this. She likes to walk, eat, cook, watch a movie, play a simple board game or drink coffee with a buddy. The woman has daytime activities from Monday to Thursday. That's why she can only meet on Fridays. According to her doctor and children, it is desirable that she is not alone on Fridays either. The Netherlands is not her country of birth. She speaks Dutch well enough to have a good conversation. She prefers a non-smoking buddy. Are you interested in becoming her buddy? Read below how that works. As a volunteer with the Roads Buddy project, we pair you with a regular participant: your buddy. We are looking for a female companion for a quiet and friendly sixty-year-old woman from Amstelveen. The woman lacks friendly contact. She has a partner and family, but she doesn't have a group of friends or one-on-one contact with anyone. She experiences problems with her coordination. For example, she may suddenly start walking crookedly or not walk in the right direction. When that happens, she cannot adjust herself. In addition, her mood can be somewhat gloomy. And that combination means that she stays on the couch again. It would be nice if the volunteer could assist her during a short walk and offer some fun. A twenty minute walk to start with. And if the volunteer also likes that, the woman might also want to take a trip to the market together later in the buddy contact. The woman wants a buddy who is calm and who can empathize with her. It would be nice if her buddy also likes nature. As a volunteer you will have to be able to initiate a conversation and pull the cart in this buddy contact. The volunteer is supposed to pick her up at home. The volunteer is not expected to take responsibility for her coordination problems. It would be nice if the volunteer would be a little attentive to this. For example, the volunteer walks on the busy side of the road and the woman walks on the quiet side of the road. If the woman falls, she can call someone from her network who will come and help her. The woman does not smoke. The volunteer is allowed to take a dog with him on the walk, provided it is a sweet animal. Are you interested in becoming her buddy? Read below how that works. Something for you? The function of this buddy contact is to break through or prevent social isolation in a participant with a psychological vulnerability by going out together. As a buddy you build a friendly one-on-one contact with someone and you provide distraction and a bit of fun. It is important that you lead the way, that you know how to take the initiative and that you take the participant out with it. And that you are willing to meet with your buddy once every fortnight for one year (longer is possible). Furthermore, you are prepared to enter into an 'open' encounter, without wanting to change the other person. Sometimes that requires adaptability. The linking takes place on the basis of common interests, among other things. Working hours: During the day or in the evening, during the week or at the weekend: everything is possible. If you become each other's buddy, you will meet once every two weeks for a period of one year. When and where you meet, you always decide in mutual consultation with your buddy. Intake procedure: Contact person Roads Maatjesproject: Jorise (Mon, Tues, Thu). Feel free to contact us for an introductory meeting. When you definitively register as a volunteer, you will be interviewed by a participant. After this conversation, you can indicate the next day whether you want to become a buddy couple. We are looking for a buddy for a sweet sixty-five year old woman from Amstelveen. The woman struggles with depressive feelings and misses friendly one-on-one contact. She has adult children, on whom she does not want to rely too much. Her circle of friends is small and her connections have busy lives themselves, so they don't often have time for her. For her it is purely about being a listening ear, sharing moments and experiences and having fun. She also likes to go out. These must be low-budget activities. And because the woman suffers from some physical problems, she cannot take long walks or do too much physical exertion. She would like it if her buddy came up with fun ideas for outings. When it rains, she thinks it would be fun to play a board game at home. The woman describes herself as social, empathetic, sociable, sensitive and spiritual. We are looking for a buddy for a man in his sixties from Amstelveen. The man has been through a lot in his life, more than he can handle. As a result of the psychological problems he developed, he also developed an alcohol and smoking addiction (not drugs). Due to the addiction problem, it is not possible to receive psychological help. So he ends up in a vicious circle. The man comes across as a loud, tough, Amsterdam guy who won't let himself be crushed. He can be very direct in contact. He can also seem a bit chaotic. But behind that there is a little heart. He is very sensitive and somewhat spiritual. He is also sensitive to injustice. He describes himself as a people person. He talks to everyone on the street. Although the man is very social and although he can make contact very easily, he feels lonely. The man wants to investigate whether a buddy can help him. He hopes that there is a volunteer who can offer him some pleasant distraction. He wants a buddy between thirty-five and sixty-five years old. Someone who accepts that he almost always smokes and who takes his sensitivity into account. The man likes to talk himself, but also likes it when his buddy has a story to tell. He likes to ask questions and respond. He finds it important that his buddy is genuinely interested in him and listens actively and that his buddy does not behave in a controlling manner. The buddy outings must be low-budget. For example: a walk, cycling, a picnic somewhere, playing a board game somewhere. He can meet from 12 noon. Are you interested in becoming his buddy? We are looking for a buddy (m/f) for a sixty year old woman who would like to take her for a walk or drink coffee somewhere. The woman has little or no social contact, except with her children. Because she feels lonely, she can go into a flow downwards. Then she stays indoors, is less interested in the outside world and becomes more and more worried. She knows that if she does fun things, she will break that downward flow. She hopes a buddy can help her by taking her out. The woman prefers not to mingle in a busy environment. She would like to make contact with friends by, for example, simply taking a walk in a park together or drinking coffee or eating an ice cream somewhere. The woman hopes that the contact with friends will provide her with some distraction and fun. She wants to be paired with someone with whom she clicks and with whom she feels good. She doesn't like to be difficult herself. She would like it if her buddy also had that same approach to life and would not pretend to be anything other than who he/she is. The woman is an easy talker, but during silences she can feel a bit uncomfortable or be hesitant. She would like it if the volunteer had some nice stories to tell, but also if the volunteer could offer her a listening ear. We are looking for a buddy for a man in his fifties from Amstelveen who can share his passion for making music with him. The man would like to give substance to the buddy contact by making music together. He has a preference for classical music. The man wishes to be paired with a buddy with whom he can be himself and with whom he does not feel he has to conform to the other. The man has a critical view of life. As a buddy you have to be able to appreciate that. It is important that you can empathize with his life and that you take the buddy agreements seriously to avoid disappointments. Are you interested in becoming his buddy? Read below how that works. As a volunteer with the Roads Buddy project, we pair you with a regular participant: your buddy. We connect the participant and the volunteer based on, among other things, common interests. The function of this buddy contact is to break through or prevent social isolation for a participant with a psychological vulnerability by going out together. As a volunteer you provide distraction and a bit of fun. It is important that you are prepared to meet with your buddy once every fortnight for one year (longer is possible). Furthermore, you are prepared to enter into the encounter 'openly', without wanting to change the other person. That sometimes requires adaptability. Working hours: During the day or in the evening, during the week or at the weekend: all possible. If you become each other's buddy, you will meet once every two weeks for a period of one year. When and where you meet each other, you always decide in mutual consultation with your buddy. Intake procedure: Contact person Roads Maatjesproject: Jorise (Mon, Wed, Thu). Please feel free to contact us for an introductory meeting. If you definitively register as a volunteer, an interview will follow with a participant. After this conversation, you can indicate the next day whether you want to become a buddy couple. Yes = start contact. No = new conversation with another buddy.

For a forty-seven-year-old woman from Amstelveen, we are looking for a buddy around her age with whom she can cook together or take up creative activities. The woman suffered brain damage due to an accident. Since then she has had balance, memory and vision problems. She spends a lot of time indoors. She is unable to independently take up her hobbies again. For example, it is difficult for her to hold a pan. That's why she doesn't cook enough for herself. So she would like it if a buddy could help her cook. She also thinks it would be nice to be paired with a buddy with whom she can be creative at home. 'We each do our own thing together' is how she envisions it. For example, she would like to crochet or knit together or draw a mandala. When crocheting or knitting, it would be nice if her buddy could help her every now and then. The woman experiences sadness because of her situation and everything that has happened in her life. But she likes to have fun, chats a lot, likes to joke and likes to express herself with humor. She therefore wants a buddy with whom she can experience fun. The buddy may be English speaking. As a result of the accident, she is easily distracted. Halfway through a conversation she can wander off or jump from topic to topic. It would be nice if you, as a buddy, could adjust the activity or conversation at such a time. The woman prefers to meet in the afternoons, except on Tuesday afternoons. She has a dog. She smokes. We are looking for a buddy for a twenty-five year old young man from Amstelveen. He wants to give his life more meaning and wishes to meet people around his age. The young man wants a buddy with whom he clicks and with whom he can talk and discuss. It is very important that his buddy is patient. He would like to go for a walk with his buddy. It would be really nice if his buddy had a dog to accompany him on the walk. The young man is also open to playing sports together at SportCity or Big Jim in Amstelveen. On the one hand, he would like to be able to tell his story and have fun conversations in social contact. On the other hand, he would like to leave the house. He is very open in social contact. He can talk about many topics. He would like it if his buddy also has an open personality. He has been through a lot in his life and cared about others. That's why he wants a buddy who doesn't have a backpack of his own. He would like to experience some lightness and coziness. He thinks it is important that his buddy is a good match. The man likes to keep his house neat and clean. And sometimes he can talk a bit fast and behave a bit 'bouncingly'. He thinks it's important that his buddy doesn't fall for that. And that his buddy respects him, just as he does with others. He thinks it would be nice to have a coffee somewhere with his buddy or go for a walk somewhere, for example in the dunes. He prefers to meet in the afternoon or evening. The day of the week doesn't matter to him, it can vary. Intake procedure: Contact person Roads Maatjesproject: Jorise (Mon, Tue, Thu). Please feel free to contact us for an introductory meeting. If you definitively register as a volunteer, an interview will follow with a participant. After this conversation, you can indicate the next day whether you want to become a buddy couple. Yes = start contact. No = new conversation with another buddy.

We are looking for a buddy for a friendly 44-year-old woman. The woman has had an anxiety disorder for years, which means she spends most of her time at home. The woman only wants or can go outside if someone accompanies her. So she is very dependent on others. The woman has been linked to buddies before. She has had positive experiences with this, because her buddies took her outside and gave her fun distractions. That's why she now hopes to be paired with a buddy again. The aim of the buddy contact is to increase the quality of her life. As a volunteer you should not have the ambition to help the woman get rid of her problems. What matters is that you take her experience seriously. The first thing that matters is that the woman feels comfortable with her buddy. Before she dares to leave the house, she will first have to click with the buddy and feel comfortable with her buddy. She may have an anxiety attack and then want to go home or she may not dare to go outside on a bad day. The woman would like to go for a walk in the area with a buddy, or possibly go for a bike ride. She also thinks it would be fun to play table tennis together or play a card or board game when it is raining. Since the woman doesn't experience much herself, she would like it if her buddy had a few things to say. She can search out the negativity in her head. That is why the woman likes it when her buddy can view life positively, but does not wave away the problems in the woman's head. The woman can meet during the day. Are you interested in becoming her buddy? Read below how that works. As a volunteer with the Roads Buddy project, we pair you with a regular participant: your buddy. We are looking for a buddy between the ages of twenty and fifty for a young man aged 35 from Amstelveen. The young man has a form of autism. He wants to be paired with a buddy who wants to go out with him and visit various entertainment venues with him. For example, he might enjoy going out for a non-alcoholic drink somewhere early in the evening. He also thinks it would be nice if his buddy would come along to buy clothes or cook together. If you ask him a question, it takes a while before he has an answer ready. It is therefore important that you, as a buddy, have social skills and can start and maintain a conversation. The man (67) has a small social network. He has some contact with a few neighbors. Contact with his children is at a distance. His life has not turned out as he had hoped and he is still struggling to keep up with life. It's hard for him to process that. He often feels lonely and despondent and is actually ashamed of the fact that he doesn't know anyone and of how his situation turned out. Because he has not had any further social contacts for some time and because he has little to spend, he experiences a barrier to joining activities in the neighborhood. The man needs some friendly attention. A buddy would be a good solution. The man hopes for a buddy who is not judgmental, but who has attention and interest in him. He has been through a lot and he would like to be able to talk to someone about how his life turned out. He needs to be seen and heard. As a buddy you will have to be patient with him. He is not someone who stands in the foreground. And he's not really used to talking. He therefore does not know how to properly estimate how he will react in a buddy contact. He may initially adopt a wait-and-see and uncertain attitude. Or that he finds it difficult to respond adequately. He talks a bit slower than average anyway. The man is not very physically mobile. He can walk about five hundred meters. He prefers to meet at home for a cup of coffee. He smokes in the house, but when his buddy comes to visit, he can promise not to smoke and then he can ventilate his house a bit. He is available daily. Are you interested in becoming his buddy? Read below how that works. As a volunteer with the Roads Buddy project, we pair you with a regular participant: your buddy.
